Human trafficking is a form of human slavery that includes forced labor, domestic servitude, and commercial sex trafficking with the use of force, fraud, or coercion.
It affects everyone – U. S. citizens, foreigners, women, men, and children.
- Trafficking doesn’t look like you may think. This isn’t people being kidnapped in a van. Many people are trafficked in plain sight. Most people are trafficked by someone they know. It can be by their boyfriend, their employer, or even their family members.
- Victims are heavily recruited on the internet while playing video games and on popular social media apps.
- Human trafficking is the business of stealing freedom for profit. In some cases, traffickers trick, defraud or physically force victims into selling sex. In others, victims are lied to, assaulted, threatened or manipulated into working under inhumane, illegal or otherwise unacceptable conditions. It is a multi-billion dollar criminal industry.
